Where is Kiswahili spoken?
Kiswahili is the official language of Tanzania and Kenya and is used extensively in Uganda and the eastern and northern provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Burundi and Rwanda, it is known and used in mostly urban centers, while it is gaining roots in rural societies which have been monolinguistic.
In countries bordering East Africa where Kiswahili functions as the common mode of communication, use of the language goes beyond national borders into towns and villages along major transportation connections, as is the case in northern Mozambique, northern Zambia, and southern Ethiopia. The language is used majorly on the East African coastal strip from well into Somalia and as far south as northern Mozambique. Many communities in the Comoro Islands and northwestern coast of Madagascar Kiswahili-related vernaculars persist and the standard Kiswahili is rapidly replacing these languages.

Course content:
Greetings, introducing oneself and the structure and grammar of Kiswahili- Kiswahili nouns and verbs formation- sentence structure and vocabulary. Kiswahili Noun Classes: singular and plural. Spoken language: listening and speaking- Language and Culture.
Aims and objectives of the course:
Is to help Kiswahili beginners to be able to greet in Kiswahili- be able to distinguish different noun classes- read simple stories in Kiswahili- be able to work primarily with Kiswahili speaking communities.

Module 2 (Level: Intermediate)
Course content:
The structure and grammar of Kiswahili- Kiswahili nouns and verbs formation- Sentence structure and vocabulary- Kiswahili Noun Classes: singular and plural- Spoken language: listening and speaking- Language and Culture.
Aims and objectives of the course:
Is to help course attendees to be able to differentiate words, their origins and pronunciation - use noun classes in concordance with verbs and adjectives.- read newspapers/ watch TV in Kiswahili- understand the cultural implications relating to the language.
